UNICEF Polio Eradication - Training Manual for Healthworker Supervisors

Worked closely with UNICEF Polio staff and their NY-based print house to conceptualise, design, refine content, illustrate and realise a B5-sized field handbook to be used in training Polio vaccinators (Healthworkers) all over the world.

The document features tabs and colour-blind accessible coded chapters, strong iconography, simple instructional illustrations and consistent visual cues to facilitate ease of document navigation. A gatefold inside front cover shows the instructor several alternate syllabi which they can refer to in order to customize the training for various purposes. A lightweight, stiff card stock gives the manual field toughness, and the coated front and back covers provide a measure of water resistance. Wire-o binding provides good strength while ensuring the document will remain open and flat on a desk, so the instructor can use it as an in-class reference without holding it.

The manual has since been translated into French for use in a wider variety of country contexts.

All icons and illustrations by yours truly.

The manual has a companion A3 sized filpbook with integrated folding stand. The design for the flipbook mirrors the visual cues and colour navigation system from the manual, but uses illustrations that were previously developed for an educational comic that participants will take with them. The flipbook may also be used as a stand alone training aid. Large, simple illustrations face the audience, with talking points for the instructor on the opposite side.
